If you apply for a work-tested benefit and you’re in a period where you’re not allowed to get one, here’s what happens:

If you’ve lost your benefit because you didn’t meet your work obligations, your new benefit might start later than usual. The government will decide when it starts based on special rules.

For all other cases where you’re not allowed to get a benefit right away, your new benefit will start on whichever is later: the day you became eligible for it, or the day you applied for it.

A work-tested benefit is a type of financial help from the government that requires you to look for work or prepare for work. The government might not let you get this benefit for a while if you’ve done certain things, like quitting a job without a good reason.
