Social Security Act 2018

Obligations - Beneficiaries’ obligations - General obligations: obligations in relation to overseas pensions

177: Applicant for benefit must provide information as to rate of overseas pension

You could also call this:

“You must tell the government about any overseas pensions when you ask for help with money”

If you apply for a benefit under New Zealand’s benefits laws, you need to give information about overseas pensions. You must tell the Ministry of Social Development (MSD) about any overseas pensions that you, your partner, or anyone who depends on you receives. You need to show MSD exactly how much these pensions are worth.

It’s important that you provide this information within 10 working days after you apply for the benefit. If you don’t give MSD this information in time, they might not give you the benefit you applied for.

Remember, this rule applies to you if you’re applying for a benefit, but it also covers pensions received by your spouse or partner, and any of your dependants. MSD needs to know about all of these to make a decision about your benefit application.
