Social Security Act 2018

Administration - Commencement, stand downs, ending, and expiry and regrant - Expiry and regrant of specified benefits

331: Expiry date, and specified benefit, defined

You could also call this:

“Explaining when certain types of government help end and what types of help are included”

In this part of the law, you’ll learn about two important terms: ‘expiry date’ and ‘specified benefit’.

The expiry date is a set day when a specified benefit ends. This date is decided by special rules.

A specified benefit is a type of help you can get from the government. It includes jobseeker support, which is always a specified benefit. It can also include sole parent support, supported living payment, or emergency benefit. But sometimes, these three might not be specified benefits if the rules say so.

The rules can say that sole parent support, supported living payment, or emergency benefit are not specified benefits. They can do this for only certain types of these benefits or for only certain groups of people who get these benefits.
