Social Security Act 2018

Obligations - Beneficiaries’ obligations - General obligations: obligations in relation to overseas pensions

179: Failure to comply with MSD’s notice given under section 178

You could also call this:

“What happens if you don't reply to MSD about your overseas pension”

If you receive a notice from MSD (Ministry of Social Development) about your overseas pension and don’t respond within 10 working days, MSD can take action. They may stop your benefit payments temporarily. This is called suspending your benefit.

Your benefit will stay suspended until you do one of two things:

  1. You tell MSD how much your overseas pension is, and they are satisfied with the information you give them.
  2. MSD decides to cancel your benefit completely.

If your benefit has been suspended for at least 40 working days, MSD can choose to cancel it. They will decide the date from which your benefit will be cancelled.

Remember, it’s important to respond to MSD’s notices about your overseas pension quickly to avoid problems with your benefit payments.
