Social Security Act 2018

Administration - Payment of benefits, tax on benefits, debts and deductions - Payment of benefits

340: Required manner of payment: general

You could also call this:

“How MSD decides to pay your benefit money”

MSD (Ministry of Social Development) decides how to pay you your benefit. They might pay all or part of it in a certain way. For example, they might put your jobseeker support money directly into your bank account.

Sometimes, there are different rules about how to pay benefits. These rules can be found in other parts of this law or in other rules made under this law. For instance, there are special rules for how to pay youth support payments.

If you don’t like how MSD has decided to pay your benefit, you can ask them to look at their decision again. But you can’t make a formal appeal about it under a different part of the law.
