You can’t get a child disability allowance at the same time as certain other types of help. If a child is getting a child disability allowance, they can’t also get most benefits under this law. The only exceptions are an orphan’s benefit, an unsupported child’s benefit, or a disability allowance. These can be received along with the child disability allowance.

The child also can’t get most pensions or allowances under the Veterans’ Support Act 2014 if they’re getting a child disability allowance. The only exception is a children’s pension, which they can receive at the same time.

Finally, if a child is getting weekly compensation under the Accident Compensation Act 2001, they can’t also get a child disability allowance.

83Child disability allowance: not payable with other assistance or pension

  1. A child disability allowance is not payable in addition to—

  2. any benefit granted to the child under this Act (except an orphan’s benefit, an unsupported child’s benefit, or a disability allowance):
    1. any pension or allowance granted to the child under the Veterans’ Support Act 2014 (except a children’s pension):
      1. weekly compensation payable to the child under the Accident Compensation Act 2001.
