Social Security Act 2018

Other provisions - Regulations

421: Regulations: residential requirement

You could also call this:

“Rules about who can get help from social security based on where they live”

The Governor-General can make rules about when someone is considered to meet the residential requirement for social security purposes. These rules can say when:

You are seen as meeting the residential requirement.

You should be treated as if you live in New Zealand, even if you don’t.

You don’t need to meet the residential requirement at all.

These rules are called secondary legislation. This means they are published in a special way for everyone to see.
