Social Security Act 2018

Assistance - Special assistance

100: Special assistance for visitors affected by overseas epidemics

You could also call this:

"Help for visitors stuck in New Zealand due to an overseas epidemic"

If you are a visitor to New Zealand and an overseas epidemic is stopping you from returning home, the Minister may create a special assistance programme for you. The Minister will write a notice that says who can get help, how much help they can get, and for how long they can get it. The notice will also say what conditions you must meet to get the help.

The programme will override other parts of the Social Security Act, which means it is more important than other rules in the Act. The government can spend money to provide this special assistance without needing extra approval. A notice under this section is secondary legislation, which means it has to follow certain rules for publication, as explained in Part 3 of the Legislation Act 2019. This helps make sure the notice is available for everyone to see.
