Land Transport Act 1998

Additional responsibilities concerning road transport - Traction engine safety

22B: Operators of traction engines to hold appropriate current qualification

You could also call this:

“You need the right skills and permission to drive a special old-fashioned engine in public areas”

You need to have the right qualification to use a traction engine in a public place. This qualification is described in the rules. You also need to be allowed to drive a motor vehicle under the law.

If you’re using a traction engine and an enforcement officer asks to see your qualification, you must show it to them right away.

A public place means anywhere that’s open to or being used by the public. This includes roads and any part of a public place. It doesn’t matter if you have to pay to enter or not.
