Land Transport Act 1998

Offences relating to driving (other than alcohol- and drug-related offences) and penalties - Offences relating to driving (other than offences involving alcohol or drugs)

34: Contravention of section 6

You could also call this:

“Penalties for driving unsafe or uncertified vehicles”

You can get in trouble if you do certain things when driving. These are:

  1. If you drive a car that isn’t safe on the road.

  2. If you drive a car without showing that it has been checked and is okay to be on the road. This might mean not having a current sticker or certificate that says your car is safe.

  3. If you don’t follow the rules about having your car checked or having the right certificates, or if you don’t follow the rules about how to drive a car that needs these checks and certificates.

If you do any of these things, you might have to pay a fine. The most you might have to pay is $2,000.
