Land Transport Act 1998

Land transport secondary legislation - Director may grant exemptions from rules and regulations

168E: General provisions relating to exemptions

You could also call this:

“Rules for making exceptions to transport laws”

This law is about how the Director can make exceptions to rules and regulations. Here’s what you need to know:

The Director can give exemptions from certain rules. When giving an exemption, the Director can set any terms and conditions they think are right. They can also change or cancel an exemption, or give a new one to replace an old one.

The Director can decide how long an exemption lasts. It could be for a set time or it could go on forever. If the Director doesn’t say when it ends, the exemption will keep going until it’s replaced or cancelled.

An exemption starts working from the date the Director says it does. If it’s for a group of people (called a class exemption), it can’t start before it’s officially published.

If you don’t follow the terms of an exemption, it’s the same as breaking the original rule, unless the exemption says otherwise.
