If you want to bring a Type A or Type B vehicle into New Zealand, you can ask the Director to open a carbon dioxide account for you. You need to fill out an application form and pay any required fees.

The Director will open an account for you if:

  2. If you’re bringing in new vehicles, you don’t already have an account for new vehicles.
  3. If you’re bringing in used vehicles, you don’t already have an account for used vehicles.

189Opening carbon dioxide accounts

  1. Any person who intends to import a Type A or Type B vehicle into New Zealand may apply to the Director to open a carbon dioxide account by submitting an application in the manner prescribed by the regulations, accompanied by the prescribed fee (if any).

  2. The Director must open a carbon dioxide account on receipt of an application under subsection (1) if the Director is satisfied that—

  3. the application complies with the prescribed requirements; and
    1. if the applicant intends to import new vehicles, the applicant does not already hold a carbon dioxide account that relates to new vehicles; and
      1. if the applicant intends to import used vehicles, the applicant does not already hold a carbon dioxide account that relates to used vehicles.
