Land Transport Act 1998

Enforcement of responsibilities - Dangerous goods

132: Inspection powers concerning dangerous goods

You could also call this:

“Officers can check and test dangerous goods to make sure they're safe”

When someone is checking for dangerous goods, they have certain powers to help them do their job. These people can be enforcement officers, dangerous goods enforcement officers, or someone helping them.

You should know that these officers can do several things:

They can take small amounts of a substance to test it. They are allowed to open any containers or packages, even if they are locked or sealed, to see what’s inside. They can also measure things and make drawings.

The officers can look at any papers or records that show if people are following the rules about dangerous goods. They can ask to see any documents or information that might be important for their inspection. If they find useful documents or information, they can make copies or take parts of them.

These powers help the officers make sure that dangerous goods are being handled safely and that everyone is following the rules.
