Land Transport Act 1998

The Crown and land transport

169A: Functions of Minister

You could also call this:

“The Minister's job is to keep people safe on roads, follow international agreements, and make rules about land transport.”

The Minister has three main jobs under this law. First, you need to make sure land transport is safe. This means helping to keep people safe when they travel on roads or other land routes. Second, you have to look after New Zealand’s part in any international agreements about land transport. If New Zealand has made a promise to other countries about how we handle land transport, you need to make sure we keep that promise. Lastly, you get to make ordinary rules under this law. These are the everyday rules that help keep our land transport system running smoothly.
