Land Transport Act 1998

Offences relating to driving (other than alcohol- and drug-related offences) and penalties - Offences relating to driving (other than offences involving alcohol or drugs)

36B: Contravention of section 22B or section 22C

You could also call this:

“Rules for using traction engines safely in public”

If you use a traction engine, you need to follow certain rules to keep everyone safe. You can get in trouble if you:

  1. Use a traction engine without the right qualifications. These qualifications are set out in the rules to make sure you can use the engine safely in public.

  2. Use a traction engine in public in a way that could be dangerous to you or other people.

  3. Use a traction engine in public without showing that it has been properly checked and is safe to use. You need to display the right documents that prove this.

  4. Don’t follow the rules about having and showing the right documents for your traction engine, or about how to use it properly.

If you break these rules, you might have to pay a fine of up to $5,000.

In this case, a ‘public place’ means the same thing as it does in section 22B(3) of the law.
