Land Transport Act 1998

Land transport secondary legislation - Regulations

168: Regulations relating to fees and charges for land transport

You could also call this:

“Rules for paying for roads and transport services”

The government can make rules about fees and charges for land transport. These rules can be used to:

  1. Pay for setting up and running things like roads and services for land transport.

  2. Cover the costs of the government agency (called the Agency) and the Director when they do their jobs related to land transport.

  3. Help regional councils pay for processing information about certain transport services.

The rules can set different fees for different types of people, vehicles, or things. They can also change the fees based on when or how much something is used.

The rules can let people who do official land transport jobs (like checking vehicles) charge a fair price for their work.

The rules can also say:

  • Who pays the fees and who gets them
  • How to work out the fees
  • Extra charges for work done outside normal hours
  • Charges for travel and other expenses
  • When fees can be given back or reduced
  • When fees need to be paid
  • Discounts for paying early or penalties for paying late
  • What information people need to give when they pay fees
  • Which fees are counted as land transport money

These rules help make sure that the land transport system has the money it needs to work properly.
