Motor vehicle registration and licensing - Registration plates

261: Eligibility for trade plates

You could also call this:

“The Minister decides who can get trade plates and what they can be used for”

The Minister can decide who can get trade plates. They can say what types of people or groups are allowed to ask for and get these plates. The Minister can also say what you can use trade plates for. If the Minister wants to, they can stop some people or groups from getting or using trade plates.

When the Minister makes these decisions, they do it by writing a notice. This notice is a type of law called secondary legislation. You can find out how this type of law is shared with everyone by looking at Part 3 of the Legislation Act 2019.
