Land Transport Act 1998

Land transport secondary legislation - Regulations

168C: Piloting fees

You could also call this:

“Paying for police to watch over very big vehicles on the road”

If you want to use a very big vehicle or carry a very big load on the road that is bigger than what the rules normally allow, you need to ask for special permission. The Agency or the Director can give you this permission in writing.

When they give you this permission, they might say you have to follow some special rules. They might tell you that you can only drive the vehicle when police officers are watching to make sure everything is safe. If they do this, you might have to pay some money to the police to cover the cost of having the officers there.

If you are told to pay this money, you must pay it to the Commissioner. If you don’t pay, the government can ask a court to make you pay.
