Motor vehicle registration and licensing - Fees and charges
274: Land transport revenue to be paid into national land transport fund
You could also call this:
"Money from transport fees goes into a special fund for transport projects"
The law says that when you pay fees and charges for land transport, most of that money goes into a special fund. This fund is called the national land transport fund. The government uses this money to pay for things related to land transport.
Not all the money you pay goes into this fund. The government keeps the part that covers goods and services tax (GST). If you're owed a refund, that money doesn't go into the fund either.
The government decides which fees and charges should go into this fund. They do this by making rules called regulations. These regulations are part of the Land Transport Management Act 2003.
When the money goes into the fund, it's put into a special bank account owned by the government. This account is called a Crown Bank Account. Once the money is in this account, it's officially called "land transport revenue".
275: Other prescribed fees received under this Part, or
"Fees not mentioned before go to special people or the government"
