Land Transport Act 1998

Additional responsibilities concerning road transport - Bylaws

22AE: Publication and proof of bylaws

You could also call this:

“How new road rules are shared and proven”

When a road controlling authority makes a new bylaw, they need to tell the public about it as soon as they can. They do this by giving a public notice that says when the bylaw will start and where people can see and get copies of it.

The road controlling authority has to keep copies of all their bylaws at their office. They need to let people look at these bylaws for free during reasonable hours. If someone wants their own copy of a bylaw, they can ask for one, but they might have to pay a small fee.

If there’s ever a question about whether a bylaw exists or what it says, the road controlling authority can show a printed copy of the bylaw. This copy is considered good proof of the bylaw and what it says, unless someone can prove it’s not correct.
