Land Transport Act 1998

Motor vehicle registration and licensing - Delegations and authorisations

273: Authorisations by Registrar

You could also call this:

“The person in charge can let others help with car paperwork”

The Registrar can give permission to people or companies to do certain things related to motor vehicles. These things include:

  1. Giving out licences, registration certificates, and registration plates for motor vehicles. This includes giving out replacements when needed.

  2. Deciding how these tasks should be done.

  3. Choosing people to help when someone changes the ownership of a motor vehicle, and telling them what they need to do.

If the Registrar gives permission to someone who doesn’t work for the government, that person still has to follow two important laws. These laws are called the Official Information Act 1982 and the Ombudsmen Act 1975.
