Land Transport Act 1998

Transport services licensing - Licensing of transport services

30O: Term of transport service licence

You could also call this:

“How long a transport service licence lasts and how it can end”

When you get a transport service licence, it starts working on the day you receive it. This licence keeps working until you give it up, it’s considered given up, or it’s taken away.

You can give up your licence at any time by writing to the Agency or the Director. If you don’t use any vehicles with your licence for two years, it’s treated as if you’ve given it up.

Some groups can’t have their licences stopped or taken away. These groups are the New Zealand Defence Force, Fire and Emergency New Zealand, the Police, and any emergency service group that the Director approves.

If you’re not sure what the Agency, the Director, or a transport service licence is, you can ask an adult to help explain these terms to you.
