Land Transport Act 1998

Clean vehicle standard - Clean vehicle standard - Targets for reducing carbon dioxide emissions

175A: Minister must review targets

You could also call this:

“The Minister checks if the rules about car pollution are working well”

The Minister must start looking at the targets for reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 30 June 2024. These targets are set out in section 175 or in rules made under section 167C(1)(j)(iv).

When the Minister looks at these targets, they need to think about a few things. They need to consider how the targets might affect vehicle carbon dioxide emissions, how safe vehicles are, and whether people can afford and get the vehicles they need. The Minister also needs to look at what other countries are doing about their carbon dioxide emissions targets. They can also think about anything else they believe is important for this review.

The Minister can choose how they want to do this review. They can use any method they think is best.

When doing the review, the Minister needs to talk to people they think should be involved. They get to decide who these people are.
