You could also call this:
“Old demerit points still count under the new law”
If you had demerit points on your driving record before this new law started, don’t worry. Those points will still count under the new law. The government will move them over to the new system. It’s like your demerit points are moving from an old house to a new one, but they’re still yours. This way, the points you had before will still matter and be counted just like they were before the change.

227Saving of demerit points
The number of demerit points recorded under section 44 of the Transport Act 1962 against any person and in force immediately before the commencement of this section have effect as if recorded under section 88 of this Act.
