This Act is about how local government provides water services to you and your community. The goal is to make sure water services are provided in a way that is flexible, cost-effective, and sustainable. This means local government must be responsible for providing water services in their area.

You will have a territorial authority in your area that is in charge of providing water services. They can work with other organisations, called water organisations, to provide these services. The territorial authority and water organisations have responsibilities to make sure you have access to water services.

The Act also makes sure that information about water services is available to you and your community. This includes information about how much money is being spent on water services, how much you are being charged, and what level of service you can expect. This information must be transparent, which means it must be easy for you to understand and access.
