Illustration for Local Government (Water Services) Act 2025

When you look at the water services system, you must check how well it works overall. You have to think about how the laws and rules for water services are working, and how local governments are providing water services. This includes checking how well the people and groups in charge of water services are doing their jobs, and how well they are working together. You also have to think about whether the rules for water services are effective, and how local governments are set up to provide water services.

You have to consider the laws that relate to water services, including this Act and other laws like the Water Services Authority—Taumata Arowai Act 2020, the Water Services Act 2021, and parts of the Commerce Act 1986 that deal with water services. You must also think about any other laws that are relevant to local government and providing water services.

The Minister may also ask you to think about other matters when you are reviewing the water services system.
