A water organisation can make a development contributions policy. This policy must follow the principles set out in the Preamble to Te Ture Whenua Maori Act 1993. The organisation must put the policy on its website.

When a water organisation wants to make, change, or get rid of a development contributions policy, it must talk to each territorial authority in its area. It must do this in a way that follows section 82 of the LGA 2002. The organisation must review its policy at least every three years.

119Development contributions policy

  1. A water organisation may adopt a development contributions policy.

  2. A development contributions policy must not be inconsistent with the principles set out in the Preamble to Te Ture Whenua Maori Act 1993.

  3. A water organisation that adopts a development contributions policy must publish the policy on an internet site maintained by, or on behalf of, the water organisation.

  4. A water organisation must review its development contributions policy at least once every 3 years.

  5. Before adopting, amending, or revoking a development contributions policy, a water organisation must—

  6. consult each territorial authority within the water organisation’s service area; and
    1. do so in accordance with section 82 of the LGA 2002 (which applies, with any necessary modifications, for that purpose).
