When you read this part of the law, you need to know what some words mean. An assessment is when people check the water services in a area, this includes drinking water and stormwater services. It is about making sure the water is safe for you to drink.

A domestic self-supplier is someone who gets their own water, you can find out more about this in section 10 of the Water Services Act 2021. Drinking water services are when water is supplied to homes and businesses for people to drink.

A drinking water supplier is a person or company that gives you drinking water, but you can find out more about this in section 8 of the Water Services Act 2021. A significant problem or potential problem is when a drinking water supplier does not follow the rules, or when the water they supply is not safe for you to drink, you can find out more about the rules in the Water Services Act 2021.

This can also happen when a supplier stops managing the water supply, or might stop soon.
