Illustration for Local Government (Water Services) Act 2025

When you want to connect to a water services network, there are rules to follow. A water services bylaw made under section 258 must say that there are three steps to get approval. The bylaw must make sure the water service provider is satisfied with each step.

You need to go through these steps to get approval. First, the water service provider must be satisfied that the network has enough capacity for what you want to do. Then, they must be satisfied that your plans will work based on detailed engineering plans.

Finally, the water service provider must check that the work is done correctly and to a good standard. They do this by inspecting the finished work and looking at the documents that support it. This check must show that the work was done according to the approvals given in the first two steps.
