Local Government (Water Services) Act 2025

Structural arrangements for providing water services - Responsibility for providing water services - Significance and engagement policy

34: Territorial authority’s policy

You could also call this:

"A territorial authority's policy must be updated to suit its water service provider role and responsibilities."

A territorial authority has to change its significance and engagement policy to fit its job. You need to think about the authority's role as a water service provider or a shareholder in a water organisation when they make these changes. The authority must also remove any parts of the policy that are no longer needed because they are now required to be in a water organisation's policy instead.

The authority's policy has to suit any changes to its role over time. This means the policy will be updated to reflect what the authority is doing. The updates will make sure the policy is relevant and useful.
