279: Identity cards

You could also call this:

"Compliance officers must carry a special identity card to prove who they are and what they do."

Illustration for Local Government (Water Services) Act 2025

When you are appointed as a compliance officer, the territorial authority or water organisation must give you an identity card. This card will have your name on it and say that you are a compliance officer. You must carry this card with you when you are doing your job and show it to people if they ask to see it.

If you are exercising your powers under the Local Government (Water Services) Act 2025, you must produce your identity card for inspection when someone requests it. This means you need to show your card to prove who you are and what you are doing.

When you stop being a compliance officer, you must return your identity card to the territorial authority or water organisation that gave it to you as soon as possible. You can find more information about this by looking at the Local Government Act for comparison.
