If you want to close down a water service, the water service provider must first check how it will affect the health of the people in the community and the environment. They must also work out how much it will cost to provide a new water service to each property if the old one is closed. The provider must compare the old service with the new one to see which is better. You can find more information about closing down a water service in section 73(2)(a). If you want to transfer a water service, the provider must first make a plan for the community to take over the service and work out how much it will cost to run it.

The provider must also check if the community can run the service properly. You can find more information about transferring a water service in section 73(2)(b).
