If you put wastewater or trade waste into a wastewater network in the right way, following the bylaws in your area, you are not breaking the law under this Act, the LGA 2002, the Resource Management Act 1991, or the Building Act 2004. You must follow the rules to avoid problems. The company that manages the wastewater network is still responsible if something goes wrong.

If something bad gets into the wastewater network and it is the fault of the company that owns or runs the network, they can still get in trouble under this Act, the LGA 2002, or the Resource Management Act 1991. This means they have to make sure the network is safe and working properly. They cannot just say it is not their problem.
