If you have a duty under a water services bylaw about equipment or devices made under section 258, you must follow it. You break the law if you knowingly do not follow this duty and it causes a serious risk. This is a serious offence and you can be fined if you are found guilty.

If you are an individual and you break this law, you can be fined up to $20,000. If you are a company or a group, you can be fined up to $200,000. You will be fined if you are convicted of this offence.

327Failure to comply with water services bylaw relating to equipment or device: failure causes specified serious risk

  1. A person commits an offence if they—

  2. have a duty under a water services bylaw made under section 258 relating to equipment or devices; and
    1. knowingly fail to comply with that duty and that non-compliance causes a specified serious risk.
      1. A person who commits an offence against this section is liable on conviction,—

      2. for an individual, to a fine not exceeding $20,000:
        1. for a body corporate or an unincorporated body, to a fine not exceeding $200,000.
