Provision of water services: operational matters - Charges for water services

93: Charges when responsibility for setting water services charges transferred during rating year

"What happens to water charges when a different group takes over during the year?"

If you are wondering what happens when the job of setting water services charges moves from one group to another during the year, this section is about that. You need to know that this can happen when the responsibility moves from a territorial authority to a water organisation, or the other way around, and it does not happen on 1 July. The group that was in charge before the move, called the transfer date, cannot set a charge for water services provided after that date.

The group that was in charge before the transfer date can still set and collect a charge for water services provided before the transfer date, even if it is after the transfer date. The new group in charge after the transfer date cannot set a charge for water services provided before the transfer date. They can set and collect a charge for water services that will be provided after the transfer date, even if they do this before the transfer date.
