Illustration for Local Government (Water Services) Act 2025

If you live in a area with fire hydrants, the people in charge of your local area, called a territorial authority, must put a notice or mark near each fire hydrant. This notice or mark shows where the fire hydrant is located. The notice or mark must be approved by Fire and Emergency New Zealand.

The notice or mark must be easy to see, which means it must be conspicuous. It can be placed on a building if the territorial authority thinks that is a good idea. You can find more information about this by looking at the related legislation. The territorial authority is responsible for making sure you can see the notice or mark near each fire hydrant.
