Civil Aviation Act 2023

Preliminary provisions - Interpretation provisions

8: Meaning of officer

You could also call this:

"Who is an 'officer' in an organisation, like a company director or chief executive"

In the Civil Aviation Act 2023, when you see the word officer, it refers to someone in a body corporate. This person is usually a director of a company, or someone with a similar role in another type of organisation. You can think of them as the people in charge of making big decisions.

When a body corporate is not a company, an officer is someone with a role similar to a company director. This can also include people like a chief executive, who have a lot of influence over how the organisation is run. However, it does not include a Minister of the Crown, who is a government minister.

To make it clear, an officer does not include someone who just gives advice to the people in charge, but does not make decisions themselves. This helps to define who is an officer and who is not, in the context of the Civil Aviation Act 2023. You should understand that this definition is important for understanding the roles and responsibilities of different people in an organisation.
