Illustration for Civil Aviation Act 2023

If you get an improvement notice, you must do what it says within the time it specifies. You have to follow the instructions in the notice. If you do not comply, you can get in trouble.

If you break the rules, you can commit an offence and have to pay a fine. The fine can be up to $50,000 if you are an individual. It can be up to $250,000 if you are not an individual.

You do not have to follow the recommendations in an improvement notice, only what you must do. This is different from the rules you have to follow. You can look at the Civil Aviation Act 1986 for more information.
