Illustration for Civil Aviation Act 2023

The Director can appoint someone as an inspector by giving them a written notice. You can be appointed as an inspector if you are an employee of the State services, a statutory officer, a prescribed person, an employee of the CAA, or an authorised security person. The Director can choose anyone for this role, as long as they have the right experience and qualifications.

The Director must make sure the person they choose has the skills and knowledge needed to do the job of an inspector. The Director decides what tasks and powers the inspector will have, and they write this down in the notice of appointment.

The inspector must follow any conditions or limitations that are written in their notice of appointment. If the inspector does something wrong, their actions are still valid, even if they did not follow the conditions exactly, you can find more information about this by looking at the relevant legislation.
