Civil Aviation Act 2023

Aviation security - Designations and security checks - Landside security areas

125: Landside security areas

You could also call this:

"Keeping airports safe: areas with extra security"

The Minister can make some decisions if they think it is necessary to keep people safe from threats to planes and airports. You might wonder what kind of threats they are talking about - it could be something that puts civil aviation at risk. The Minister can also make these decisions if New Zealand needs to work with other countries to keep aviation safe, or if it is necessary to support the main goals of the Civil Aviation Act, including the additional purpose mentioned in section 4(d). The Minister can choose an area inside an airport or navigation installation and declare it a landside security area by putting up signs around it. The Minister gets to decide how long the declaration lasts, but it cannot be more than 30 days.
