When you are working out the value of something called a special drawing right, you need to know what it is equal to in New Zealand money. The International Monetary Fund decides what one special drawing right is equal to in New Zealand money on a particular date. You use this value for the date of a judgment or another important date.

If you need to prove what one special drawing right is equal to in New Zealand money, someone from the Treasury can give you a certificate that says what the value is. This certificate can be used as evidence in court and is enough to prove the value unless someone can prove it is wrong. The Treasury can also give you a certificate if no value has been decided for a particular date, and they can tell you what the value was on the most recent date before that.

When you are reading about Article 22 of the amended Convention, you should also consider what it says in Article 25A of the amended Convention and Articles V and VI of the Guadalajara Convention. You can find more information about this by looking at the 1990 No 98 s 91H legislation. This will help you understand what the value of a special drawing right is and how it is used.

            1. Any certificate given must be received in evidence in any proceedings and, in the absence of proof to the contrary, is sufficient evidence of the value of 1 special drawing right in New Zealand currency.
