217: Offences relating to CORSIA

You could also call this:

"Breaking CORSIA aviation emission rules can lead to big fines"

If you operate an attributed flight without an emissions monitoring plan, you commit an offence, which is against what is stated in section 207. You also commit an offence if you fail to provide an emissions report required under section 208, or if you fail to complete the carbon offsetting requirements calculated by the Secretary under section 210. You commit an offence too if you fail to provide an emissions unit cancellation report required under section 211.

If you commit one of these offences, you can be fined when convicted. If you are an individual, your fine can be up to $50,000. If you are not an individual, your fine can be up to $250,000.

You must follow these rules to avoid committing an offence related to CORSIA, which is part of international aviation rules in the Civil Aviation Act 2023.
