This page is about a bill. That means that it's not the law yet, but some people want it to be the law. It could change quickly, and some of the information is just a draft.

This proposed law change talks about what an animal and biosecurity controller is. You are an animal and biosecurity controller if you work for the Department of Conservation to control animals. You can also be an animal and biosecurity controller if you have a concession from the Minister of Conservation to do animal recovery work. You might be an animal and biosecurity controller if you work for an agency that manages biosecurity, like one mentioned in section 100 of the Biosecurity Act 1993. You could also be one if your business is to control certain animals, or if you work for someone who does this. Some business owners or workers might be animal and biosecurity controllers too, if having certain animals on their land would hurt their business a lot. The law mentions specific Acts, like the Wildlife Act 1953, the Wild Animal Control Act 1977, the Conservation Act 1987, and the Biosecurity Act 1993, which are relevant to being an animal and biosecurity controller. These Acts help explain what an animal and biosecurity controller does. You need to follow the rules and limits set out in these Acts to be an animal and biosecurity controller.
