183Applications for endorsements: applicants or holders of firearms licence, curator licence, or visitor licence

1. This section applies to a person who is—

2. applying for a firearms licence, curator licence, or visitor licence; or
3. the holder of a firearms licence, curator licence, or visitor licence.

4. The person, if a member of a pistol shooting club, may apply for an endorsement on their firearms licence permitting them to possess either or both of the following items in their capacity as a member of a pistol shooting club:

5. a pistol:
6. a large-capacity pistol magazine.

7. The person, if a visitor to New Zealand who wishes to use a pistol for competitive shooting on a pistol shooting range in New Zealand, may apply for an endorsement on their visitor licence permitting them to possess either or both of the following items in their capacity as a visitor to New Zealand:

8. a pistol:
9. a large-capacity pistol magazine.

10. The person, if a bona fide collector of firearms, may apply for an endorsement on their firearms licence permitting them to possess 1 or more of the following arms items in their capacity as a bona fide collector of firearms:

11. a pistol (including a semi-automatic pistol):
12. a large-capacity pistol magazine:
13. a restricted weapon:
14. a restricted firearm:
15. a restricted magazine.

16. The person, if a person to whom 1 or more of the following arms items have special significance as an heirloom or a memento, may apply for an endorsement on their firearms licence permitting possession of the item or items in their capacity as a person to whom the item or items have special significance as an heirloom or a memento:

17. a pistol (including a semi-automatic pistol):
18. a large-capacity pistol magazine:
19. a restricted weapon:
20. a restricted firearm:
21. a restricted magazine.

22. The person, if a licensed curator, may apply for an endorsement on their curator licence permitting them to possess 1 or more of the following arms items in their capacity as the curator of a bona fide museum:

23. a pistol (including a semi-automatic pistol):
24. a large-capacity pistol magazine:
25. a restricted weapon:
26. a restricted firearm:
27. a restricted magazine.

28. The person, if an approved employee or approved member of a specified body, may apply for an endorsement on their firearms licence permitting them to possess 1 or more of the following arms items in their capacity as an approved employee or approved member of a specified body:

29. a pistol (including a semi-automatic pistol):
30. a large-capacity pistol magazine:
31. a restricted weapon:
32. a restricted firearm:
33. a restricted magazine.

34. The person, if an animal and biosecurity controller, may apply for an endorsement on their firearms licence permitting them to possess either or both of the following arms items in their capacity as an animal and biosecurity controller:

35. a restricted firearm:
36. a restricted magazine.

37. In subsection (7),—

    approved, in relation to an employee or a member of a specified body, means an employee or a member of a specified body who has been approved in writing for the purposes of subsection (7) by the chief executive of the specified body

    specified body means—

    1. a broadcaster within the meaning of the Broadcasting Act 1989; or
    2. a bona fide theatre company or society, cinematic or television film production company, or video recording production company.
