This page is about a bill. That means that it's not the law yet, but some people want it to be the law. It could change quickly, and some of the information is just a draft.

Arms Bill

Licences and approvals - Visitor licences - Applying for visitor licence

126: Disclosure of certain matters to applicant not required

You could also call this:

"The Arms Regulator can keep some information secret when you apply for a visitor licence to keep people safe and protect New Zealand."

Illustration for Arms Bill

When you apply for a visitor licence, the Arms Regulator does not have to tell you everything. They can keep some information secret if sharing it would put someone's safety at risk. They can also keep information secret if sharing it would harm New Zealand's security or relationships with other countries. The Arms Regulator can keep information secret if sharing it would stop other countries or organisations from trusting the Police or other New Zealand agencies with confidential information. This means they can keep some things secret to protect New Zealand and its relationships. You might not get all the information you want when you apply for a visitor licence. The Arms Regulator has to balance your right to know with the need to keep some information secret. They have to follow the rules and make decisions based on what is best for everyone. This is part of the proposed Arms Bill, which is a change to the current law.
