This page is about a bill. That means that it's not the law yet, but some people want it to be the law. It could change quickly, and some of the information is just a draft.

Arms Bill

Miscellaneous provisions - Identification marking of arms items

329: Falsifying identification markings

You could also call this:

"Don't put fake markings on guns or weapons"

Illustration for Arms Bill

If you intentionally put false markings on a firearm when making it, you could be in trouble. You could also be in trouble if you put false markings on a firearm that you import. You might put false markings on other arms items that need identification markings. If you break this rule, you could go to prison for up to 10 years. The law says what a firearm is, and it includes standard firearms, restricted firearms, pistols, and restricted weapons. It also includes firearms that have been permanently deactivated, which means they cannot be used anymore. You need to know what the law means by a firearm, so you can follow the rules. The law is trying to stop people from putting false markings on firearms and other arms items. This is a proposed change to the law, which means it is not yet in effect.
