This page is about a bill. That means that it's not the law yet, but some people want it to be the law. It could change quickly, and some of the information is just a draft.

The proposed law says regulations can let you off paying a fee or charge, or give you some of your money back. You might get an exemption, waiver, or refund if you fit into a certain group of people. The chief executive can decide to exempt, waive, or refund a fee or charge if they think it is fair in your situation. The chief executive's decision to exempt, waive, or refund a fee or charge is a type of secondary legislation, which has its own publication rules, as outlined in Part 3 of the Legislation Act 2019. You can find more information about this in the Legislation Act 2019. The regulations must say if the chief executive has the power to make these decisions. The regulations made under section 371 can allow for exemptions, waivers, or refunds of fees or charges. You might be able to get some of your money back if you are eligible. The regulations will outline the circumstances in which the chief executive can make these decisions.
