This page is about a bill. That means that it's not the law yet, but some people want it to be the law. It could change quickly, and some of the information is just a draft.

Illustration for Arms Bill

The proposed law says you will have a group called the Firearms Licensing Review Committee. This group must have certain people in it, including lawyers chosen by the Minister. These lawyers must have been practising in New Zealand for at least 5 years. You will also have people in the group who represent licence holders, chosen by the Minister. The chief executive will choose some people to be in the group as well. These people will be in the group for up to 5 years and can be chosen again. The Minister and the chief executive get to choose who is in the group. You can have the same people in the group for more than 5 years if they are chosen again. The group will have a mix of lawyers, people representing licence holders, and people chosen by the chief executive.
