Identification marking of arms items
325Identification markings by manufacturers and importers
A person who manufactures an item that is required by section 324 to have an identification marking must stamp, cast, or engrave an identification marking on the item at the time of its manufacture.
A person who imports into New Zealand an item referred to in section 324(1)(a) to (h) that does not have an identification marking must stamp, engrave, or cause to be stamped or engraved, in clear view on the frame or receiver, or upper or lower receiver, of the item, within 30 days after the day on which the item is imported, a marking by which the item may be identified.
A person who imports into New Zealand an item referred to in section 324(1)(i) and (j) that does not bear an identification marking must stamp, engrave, or cause to be stamped or engraved, in clear view on that item, within 30 days after the day on which the item is imported, a marking by which the item may be identified.
A person commits an offence and is liable on conviction to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 3 years, or to a fine not exceeding $15,000, if the person, without reasonable excuse, contravenes subsection (1), (2), or (3).
