Illustration for Arms Bill

You get a firearms licence on a specific date. It lasts for a certain time. If you are new to firearms licences, or had one revoked, it lasts 5 years. It also lasts 5 years if you let your old licence expire. You get 10 years if none of the above applies to you. Your licence can end earlier if it is revoked or surrendered. The licence starts on the date it says on the licence.
